Ascalon
Ascalon is a speculative fiction novel that asks the question: what if all the myths of the world had a common basis? How would different cultures react if this common basis was discovered scienfically? And how does a world that has lost faith in the mystical deal with this shocking fact? 70K words, seeking literary representation.
All the cultures of the world once revered the dragon (in one form or another) — but, just like in our world, people today sneer at the unscientific.
A grainy image of a dragon is leaked on the nascent internet, and Selene, the scientist, finds herself on its trail at the peak of the highest mountain. She will contend with encountering the divine, a traitorous crew-mate and tyrannical captain, and, finally, overcoming the guilt of what she did to get on the trip in the first place…
